What an OMS Can Do For Your Utility

This is a guest blog post is brought to you by dataVoice International.

When utilities encounter emergency disruptions in the field or a sudden requirement to communicate with all the customers in a specific region, the dataVoice Outage Management System (OMS) is an ideal addition to NorthStar's CIS and other tools.

OMS combines information from multiple sources -- customer trouble reports, meter statuses, SCADA reports -- and it tracks the operational picture.  That picture is communicated automatically to utility employees, managers, and customers alike.

Combined with the dataVoice IVR, OMS communicates by phone, email, text, and more.  Do you need to tell everyone downline from a device that you know they are out of power?  Do you need to call several subdivisions to boil their water?  OMS can do that.

DataVoice’s OMS and NorthStar’s CIS Working Together

Best of all, it integrates directly with NorthStar's existing tools.  Customer service representatives get direct access to OMS from inside NorthStar, and with that comes up-to-the-minute status.

The NorthStar/dataVoice collaboration began at Shelby, NC, where Shelby's staff was surprised at how quickly and smoothly the integration was completed.  It was followed by a deployment at Kaukauna, MN.  There OMS replaced a manual system and streamlined outage response procedures.

The most recent on-going deployment is in Glendale, CA, where OMS serves both the electric and water departments.
